Dual credit is important because it is a way to expose high school students to the college environment. This can be done face-to-face or online. A majority of our students are the first in their families to attend college. Letting high school students attend college classes should help reduce fear and anxiety about attending college.

From our evaluators at the RAND Corporation

“Looking ahead to the next school year, RAND’s evaluation plan for the EEDW project has been updated and will ask less of counselors. Counselors are no longer being asked to complete any trackers about your interactions with students, nor do you need to know which students are in the “encouraged” group in your day-to-day work. Instead, RAND will simply invite counselors to participate in a brief (~5 minute) voluntary survey once per semester, which will ask questions about your experiences providing advice to ALL of your students about IT courses, pathways, and career opportunities. RAND will also continue to gather feedback through interviews from time to time with some of the counselors participating in EEDW.

Once at the end of each school year, EEDW will ask counselors to provide enrollment data showing a list of which students at the school ended up enrolling in IT courses, so that we can track this outcome.

EEDW will continue to coordinate with you around sending text messages about IT specifically to the “encouraged” student list, and will now also be mailing additional helpful information about IT opportunities to those “encouraged” students. EEDW will also work with schools and to help a subset of interested students from this group to attend the upcoming Fall “Tech Summit.”

A Few Final Thoughts about EEDW

We have the potential through EEDW not only to improve learning experiences during the high school years and post-graduation studies but also to prepare students for success when they first step into their professional roles.

Thank you for all you do!
